Event Description

Based in Athens, Georgia, Wim Tapley came of age playing venues in Washington D.C. and its sprawling suburbs. There, he honed his voice with the passion of a born troubadour, drawing in a diverse fanbase with his easy showmanship and distinct style.

Since 2021, Athens has been home to Wim and his live band The Cannons. His first week in the Empire State of the South, Wim made his way onto a local bill, etching a name for himself as a fresh and favorite hometown voice. He is ardently received by his ever-growing following at legendary regional venues like the Georgia Theatre, Eddie’s Attic, and the 40 Watt Club— the latter of which he’s headlined more than once— and on tours across the Southeast, playing ticketed shows in capital cities and SEC university campuses.

Firmly rooted in Americana and dashed with glamorous pop sensibilities, the swinging depths of neo-soul, and a sprinkling of riotous horns, Wim’s arresting sound is as fresh as it is ageless, as fevered as it is raucous fun.

An observational songwriter born into the era of home recording, Pierce Alexander released his debut album The Minutehand Feb. 11, 2022. While his image is unassuming, the Charlestonian musician’s songs are solidly layered with deep introspection and vivid lyrical imagery. Alexander tells heartwarming and sometimes painstakingly written stories that slowly unfold for better or for worse. The Minutehand is a lush and evocative song cycle in which the narrator explores themes of unexpected separation, addiction, and feeling trapped by the confines of early adult life. He sets up a familiar scene of a plane about to depart in the song ‘Make it Up to You’ with lines like, “Face of winter, eyes of sundown, Ready to leave the ground” and “Distant buildings through the mist, One last kiss, one more kiss”. The narrator foreshadows the momentary nature of the relationship with lines like “I’ll be who you want for a while”. His debut album saw Alexander take his songwriting beyond the reaches of his previous releases with rich string arrangements and picturesque lyrics.
